Vote Tuesday, June 12, in the Democratic Primary Election for Supervisor
Message to Teen Voters

Have you ever had to take classes in trailers because there aren’t enough classrooms at your school? Were the trailers parked on playing fields where you used to have recess? Have you had to eat lunch as early at 10:00 a.m or as late as 2:00 p.m. because there are simply too many kids to shuttle through an over-crowded cafeteria?

Did you know that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recently allowed the School Board to "consolidate" its offices into a newly renovated building, while you students continue to go to school in trailers? If you have a job and file tax returns, your money was used for that too!

I want to change all this. I want developers who build huge housing developments to help pay the true cost of providing schools for all the new kids who will live there. I also want them to help pay for more parks and sports fields, and to make sure they protect our streams and trees. I want to make sure that budget savings and income are applied FIRST to our children and schools, not to the school board’s offices.

Kids generally don’t get much say about these things, but if you will be 18 by November 12, 2007, and live in Providence District, then you can vote in the June 12, 2007 Democratic primary election in which I am running to unseat Providence District Supervisor Linda Smyth.

You can register on-line, but you must register NO LATER THAN MAY 12th. You can register by mail also. If you cannot vote in person, vote by absentee ballot. If you are not yet old enough to vote, tell your parents that you care about these issues and ask them to vote.

You can find more information about how runaway growth and development are affecting our schools and neighborhoods at FairGrowth, an organization that I helped to create, and you can learn more about my campaign at my website.

I’m looking forward to improving your schools and helping you become the next generation of educated voters!
